About the event
Next year marks the 160th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination at Ford’s Theater on April 14, 1865. Lincoln’s subsequent funeral train stopped in Hammond, Indiana on the morning on May 1, 1865. To commemorate the significant moment in American history, Westfield-based The Lincoln Special will be speaking to the Hammond Historical Society on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Since last year, Executive Director Chris Allen has toured Lincoln’s funeral train route across Indiana, staging free public symposiums to highlight Lincoln’s life and legacy after his assassination at Ford’s Theater. “It’s imperative to remind people that Lincoln’s story didn’t just end at Ford’s Theater,” said Allen. “Even in death, Lincoln’s story continued on, only with us as authors.” He added. “Hammond shares an indelible connection to our nation’s story.”
Allen will be sharing The Lincoln Special’s mission on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Hammond Public Library at 564 State Street…
