History of the Hammond Historical Society

Founded in 1960, the Hammond Historical Society has maintained its purpose to publish, promote, and preserve historical knowledge related to the city of Hammond, Indiana.

The Historical Society offers monthly meetings featuring local speakers and historians on the first Saturday of every month, September-November and January-April.

The Society offers an Annual Dinner every May, which typically occurs in a local location with historical ties to the city, and an annual tour of Hammond's oldest cemetery Oak Hill in October.

HHS historical collections and artifacts are stored in the Hammond Public Library's archives and available to the public for research and general viewing.
